DVIU (Direct Vision Internal Urethrotomy)
A surgical procedure used to treat urethral strictures (narrowing) due to scarring. Internal urethrotomy is a minimally invasive endoscopic procedure where a small cut is made in the narrowed part to fix the abnormal narrowing of the urethra. Urethral strictures may be caused by repeated episodes of urethritis, benign prostatic hyperplasia, scarring from a previous surgery or injury or trauma to the pelvic region. A catheter is inserted during the procedure and will remain in place for a few days until the internal cut heals.
