Interstim
For many patients who experience urinary urgency (when the bladder signals frequently to empty) or incomplete emptying of the bladder, interstim placement may be an option. Interstim is an electrical stimulator that is placed surgically at the left or right hip with leads entering the spine to stimulate the bladder to electrically signal the mind to empty at a more functional rate. Your physician will help determine if this is the best option for you. It is completed in a two-step process. The first step is completed in the office where the stimulating leads are placed superficially and the pt is given a week to test both sides and settings for efficacy. The second step is a surgical placement of leads and battery pack in the operating room.
