PSA is a substance produced by the prostate and released in very small amounts into the bloodstream. At times this substance can be released in excess by the prostate, and when this occurs the blood test results move outside of normal limits. An elevated PSA blood test can be a result of an enlarged prostate, a prostate infection or a possible prostate cancer and at times requires further testing. The PSA blood test is drawn regularly in our offices and analyzed by or own pathologist.
