Ureteral Stent Placement
A stent is a soft rubber tube that runs the length of the ureter from your kidney to your bladder. It is placed in the ureter when there is a blockage in the kidney or ureter, during stone removal or to help the ureter to heal after surgery. It is coiled at the ends to keep it in place. Your stent may stay in place for one to two weeks, or longer. During this time you may experience some discomfort-which is to be expected. You may also experience urinary frequency and blood in your urine. Your stent may be removed in the office or in the operating room.
